WHAT A FABULOUS WEEK!
March 1-5, 2010 proved to be a FANTASTIC week at Irving Elementary as we celebrated READ ACROSS AMERICA and DR. SEUSS'S BIRTHDAY.  Highlights included:
  • Students delightfully astonished our principal, Mrs. Lita Martinez by reading 1,436,548 words, surpassing her Principal's Challenge to read 1 million words by the end of the week.
  • Lee Douglas, sportscaster from News First 5, read an inspirational rendition of Dr. Seuss's Oh the Places You'll Go to students on March 2, Dr. Seuss's would-be 106th Birthday.
  • Dr. Tammy Clementi-Watson delivered a powerful reading proclamation and Charlotte Macaluso led students as they pledged a heartfelt reading oath.
  • Administrators Mary Jo Bollinger, Elaine Madrid, Rosa Snyder, and Adolf Vigil were fabulous guest readers.
  • Tharyn Mulberry, Centennial High School Principal, also joined in the festivities along with former Irving principals Jeanette Garcia, Jose Duarte, and Joseph Caruselle.
  • Rotary Readers, including Randy Evetts, Priscilla Lucero, Burnie Zercher, Corrine Koehler, Karen Lilly, Chief Jim Billings, and Mike DeLuca were recognized for their outstanding contributions to Irving students.
  • Irving staff members performed a hilarious skit and Mrs. DeeAn Hillebrand's second grade class stole the show with a spectacular choreographed Dr. Seuss rap.
  • School-wide activities also included Dress-up Day, Read Across Irving, Surfin' with Seuss: Technology Activities, Pajama Day, an Animation Extravaganza and many other fun activities.

BULLPUPS PROVIDE HELP TO HAITI VICTIMS
Irving students worked hard to collect a generous sum of $1134.04 in donated funds to help Haiti earthquake victims.  The 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred on January 12, 2010, affecting more than 3 million inhabitants.  Student council members proudly presented a check to American Red Cross representative Mr. Burnie Zercher, during our Read Across America assembly on March 2, 2010.
